Same City – Different Location for Hardinge’s Midwest Technical Center

Larger Facility in Elgin, Illinois offers ideal layout for Production & Technical Showroom

ELMIRA, NY (February 15, 2022) – Celebrating the new year of 2022 included a new setting for Hardinge’s Elgin, IL technical center. A new 45,000 square foot facility, located at 1755 Britannia Drive, Unit A, now handles all of Hardinge’s Usach Grinder production, as well as turnkey grinding projects for North and South America.

Chandra Urs, Hardinge Inc.’s Chief Operating Officer, said the new building is larger than its previous Elgin, IL location. “We moved to a new location in order to give us an optimal layout for both our production center and technical show room,” said Urs. “We’re investing in a region rich with history, along with a strong install base for our company.”

“We continue to see strong demand for our Grinding portfolio across North & South America.  This facilitiy provides us the much needed room for growth and allows us to meet customer expectations.  In fact, since the beginning of January, we now have over 50 employees working at the new site with room to scale as necessary,” explained Urs.

As Hardinge’s Midwest technical center, the Elgin, Illlinois building will have demo capability for a full product line of turning, milling, grinding, and witholding for:

  • Application engineering support, process qualification, and machine runoff services.
  • Demonstration area for sales visits.
  • Development and assembly of Usach universal and production ID and OD cylindrical precision grinding machines.
  • Expansion of turnkey systems.
  • Re-controlling of CNC cylindrical grinding machines.
  • Sales, service, and repair part support.
  • In-house automation capability.

Ryan Ervin, Chief Marketing Officer & Vice President of Sales, emphasized how important this facility will be for Hardinge.  “This investment not only provides a state-of-the-art facility for customer demonstrations and runoffs, but also expands our strategic automation capabilities,” said Ervin.

“Hardinge continues to add resources and technical knowhow for in-house automation capabilities and this region is ideal for Hardinge with the many local leading industry partners,” added Ervin.

Meanwhile, Hardinge’s Elmira, NY Regional Technical Center and Manufacturing Location will continue to operate with similar capabilities to support its precision Turning and Milling operations.
